I frequently find myself wanting to write about the things that I make and do. Usually that means that I write half of a tweet and then end up discarding it because I don’t actually think anyone cares what I think on Twitter. So maybe I’ll throw them here.
I’ve had some blogs in the past. Usually they’re pretty specific. I made a blogger site about my plan to make a custom 3D printer about 10 years ago. That project never got past the very crude design stage before I abandoned it, along with the blog. I did end up making two 3D printers but I never really wrote about them.
Then I tried to make a Tumbler site about web development and pointed this domain at it. I think I made three posts before I abandoned that one as well. At the time it just wasn’t very cathartic to blog about things that I was doing. I think I convinced myself that I would be a better developer if I made a blog, for some bizarre reason.
From time to time though, I do want to write about or document the things I work on and I really don’t have a good place for it. Some of the code type things end up on GitHub as gists or repos that I never update. Some of the 3D printer stuff that I do I just slack / text / chat to friends or occasionally they make it to tweet. But generally speaking I find myself occasionally wanting a way to go back and reference them.
I don’t want to make any promises with this. Like I said in the title there’s a pretty strong chance I’ll never update anything on here ever again. But maybe setting expectations low might mean something will come of it. If anything it’s just for me anyways because who the hell would want to come here and read about my meandering random shit? So with that, if you’re lucky, there’s another post to go look at right not. If not we’ll see ya in another 10 years.
